October 2020 Progress Update

Come one, come all, for the latest Toontown Offline blog post! This month’s guest? Why, it’s now the month of OCTOBER! The month of everything spooky, where leaves begin to fall and things start to turn cold. Personally, this is one of my favorite months all year. Now what’s going on for Toontown Offline this October? Let’s get into that.

Anesidora Before we talk about what’s coming to Toontown Offline this October, there’s a little bit of backstory to be told first. A few months ago back in June, a monumental release was made in the Toontown community called Pandora. The Pandora archive is a collection of source files for all of the Toontown Online assets, including some never-before-seen content. We wrote a post about this when it happened, so feel free to read more about it here.

So why am I bringing this up? Well earlier this month, shortly before the anniversary of Toontown’s closure, the same Reddit user who released the Pandora archive released something new- the Anesidora archive. Whereas the Pandora release was for source files of the game’s assets, Anesidora is a copy of Toontown Online’s source code from the middle of Field Office development. This is a huge discovery for Toontown, on a similar level to Pandora. The release of Anesidora has provided the community with a bunch of code-related materials we’ve never had access to. It would be too much for me to explain the scope of it all in just this blog post, so if you are interested in learning more about what Anesidora means for Toontown, give this post a read.

What does Anesidora mean for Toontown Offline? Quite a few things. Similar to the Pandora leak, we plan to use Anesidora to a great extent. Here is a short highlight of things that will be coming to Toontown Offline thanks to this leak:

  • When developing the v1.0 update, we had to create a lot of server code ourselves for certain features such as Estates, Fishing, Toontasks, and more. We plan on replacing most of our custom code with the original Disney code for each of these features.
  • There are a few unreleased experiments found in Anesidora. We plan on adding some of them to the game, such as Fish Poker.
  • An old version of Silly Street, without the Toon HQ, was found in Anesidora. We plan on adding this street to connect the Beta Toontown Central and Beta Daisy Gardens playgrounds.
You should expect to see most, if not all of these come to the game in our v1.0.3.0 update this October. Let’s talk a bit more about that update.

Upcoming Updates Unlike our first two medium-sized updates, v1.0.3.0 won’t be too flashy or contain much new content. It will, however, contain a lot of stability improvements, tweaks, and more. Why don’t you check out a list below to see what’s included?

  • Everything mentioned in the Anesidora list above will be included in v1.0.3.0.
  • The Library of Merge Conflict building in the Toontown Outskirts will open up and serve as a new building to preserve Toontown’s history.
  • The concept and execution of Retro Mode is getting a complete makeover.
  • A new feature is being introduced to help our Legit Mode players get through the game easier- and we’re also introducing various new tweaks that will improve the Legit Mode experience as a whole.
  • If we’re lucky, we plan on releasing Discord Integration this update. Discord Integration was a feature we implemented back on the Toontown Offline Test Server, but we have unfortunately been unable to bring it to the live game due to our switch to Pypperoni. Hopefully, we can manage to pack this feature in the v1.0.3.0 update.
You can expect this update to release sometime before the end of October. Make sure to check our website, Discord, and Twitter pages often for news on when this update releases!

Loading Screen Submissions Earlier this week, we announced on our Twitter that submissions for our loading screen screenshots had re-opened. In the past, we’ve hosted a couple contests where players would submit in-game screenshots to later be implemented as loading screens. We’ve decided to re-open these submissions, but this time it won’t be in the form of a contest. Instead, we plan on keeping these submissions open for the foreseeable future.

So if you want to add your own loading screen to Toontown Offline, feel free to head over to our screenshot entry page, sign up for an account on our website, and submit some screenshots today!

Domino's Pizza Ordering The following segment is not all too related to Toontown Offline, but I thought we’d share it anyways. Earlier this month, one of our developers (me!) added a hilarious feature to Toontown using the Toontown Offline source code- the ability to order a real-life pizza from the comfort of the game. We posted about this on our Twitter after one of our team members successfully tested out the feature for the first time. It was such a funny, nonsensical feature to add to Toontown that I had a very fun time adding. Please note, though, that this feature will not be coming to the live game in any way, shape, or form. While it was added using the Toontown Offline source code, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be in the actual game. Hopefully we can create some more joke features like this one in the future!

Welcoming New Team Members And finally, I would like to end off today’s blog post by welcoming a bunch of new members to the Toontown Offline team. Since reopening our team applications, we’ve brought on nearly half a dozen new members to our team. Please show some appreciation to these very talented individuals!

  • Anthony Ranieri - Video Editor
  • Doctor Dynamite - Composer
  • Booser Jr. - Concept Artist
  • Christopher - Creative Lead
  • Ryno - 3D Artist & Video Editor
We aren’t done seeking new team members yet, though. If you are interested in joining the Toontown Offline team, head over to the Join The Team section of our website and find an application that best suits your skills! We are actively looking for new team members for all three of our departments- Development, Creative, and Support.

Conclusion Well, that’s about all for this month’s blog post. I hope you enjoyed reading about both what’s to come in October, and some of what happened during the month of September. Until next time folks, have a good one!
